The face we call “Lenny” was first spotted on a Finnish imageboard in November 2012. It jumped instantly to 4chan, where entire boards were spammed into chaos with walls of ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). By the end of that weekend, users were remixing it with new eyes, mouths, and arms to effectively invent ASCII meme culture’s most flexible building block.
From there, Lenny spread across Reddit, WoW forums, Twitter, and Tumblr. Sunglasses Lennys, flexing Lennys, dancing Lennys - the variations were endless. Wherever Lenny landed, it carried the same smug, mischievous, slightly cursed energy. Over a decade later, the Lenny face remains one of the internet’s most recognizable memes because it never stopped evolving.
$LENNY on Hedera carries that same legacy. After the original anon dev rugged on day one (7/27/25), the community CTO’d the project, turning disaster into a rallying point. From there, $LENNY was rebranded specifically for Hedera culture: the blue look, ≖ eyes, and a meme made native to the hashgraph. What started as a spammy emoticon is now the first true CTO in Hedera history.
